The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is learnt to have opposed the observe of de-reserving college posts at IITs after a year if they don’t get stuffed “despite efforts”.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) had approached DoPT looking for its views on the report of a government-appointed committee, which not too long ago advisable that IITs be exempted from reserving college positions.
In its feedback, DoPT is learnt to have cited its order dated December 7, 2009, that states, “there is a general ban on dereservation of reserved vacancies in case of direct recruitment.” This order permits de-reservation solely in distinctive circumstances “when a vacancy in a Group ‘A’ service cannot be allowed to remain vacant in public interest”.
Even then, the ministry has to observe process that entails consulting nationwide commissions for OBC, SCs and STs earlier than taking DoPT’s permission to open the place to common class candidates.
The 23 IITs reserve posts whereas recruiting college on the entry stage of assistant professor. According to Education Ministry sources, feedback of the three ministries can be deliberated by the standing committee of the IIT Council quickly.
The IITs have been permitted to dereserve instructing positions on the entry stage after a year in 2008 after the suggestion was deliberated and accepted by the Standing Committee. Hence, now the newest report together with feedback of different stakeholder ministries has been despatched to the Standing Committee.
