GST officers arrest one person for duty evasion of around ₹ 831.72 crore

“The Central GST Delhi West Commissionerate has unearthed evasion of GST by way of manufacture and clandestine supply of gutkha/pan masala/ tobacco products without any registration and payment of duty.”

“On the premise of proof gathered, shares seized and confessional statements recorded the whole duty evasion is estimated to be approx ₹ 831.72 crore. Further investigation is in progress,” the ministry stated in an announcement.

On the premise of searches on the premise of manufacture, it was discovered that unlawful manufacturing of gutkha/pan masala/tobacco merchandise was happening.

Around 65 labourers had been discovered working on the unlawful manufacturing unit. The completed product of gutkha was being equipped to varied states in India.

The searches resulted within the seizure of completed gutkha and uncooked supplies equivalent to chuna, sada kattha, tobacco leaves, and many others, valued at ₹ 4.14 crore roughly, it added.

One person has been arrested within the matter on the premise of his involvement within the manufacture and provide of items with out situation of any bill with the intention to evade tax, in addition to in transporting, eradicating, depositing, retaining, concealing, supplying, or buying items in violation of the GST regulation provisions, it added.
