NEP 2020 aims to build complete character: RSS functionary

“Many people believe that education came into the country only after British arrived and that it developed because of them. But we all know that there were many educational facilities in our country before the British came,” he mentioned.

Ambekar mentioned the schooling system in India was slowly destroyed after the British got here to India.

“Actually, it was the beginning of destruction of our education system,” he mentioned.

Citing a report, he mentioned that in 1830 that there have been one lakh colleges in Bengal and Bihar, and equally in Bombay, Madras and Punjab presidencies.

In 1858, British had enrolled solely 20,000 college students in 452 colleges and schools in 21 district of Madras presidency.

“On the contrary, 11,000 schools already existed before them and it had 1094 colleges and 1,57,195 students were studying in schools and 5,403 students were studying in colleges. It clearly indicated that they did not improve the education system, rather finished it,” he mentioned.

He additional alleged that the British schooling system was elitist and it was a car to promote caste privilege fairly than car to enchancment for all.

The colleges prior to the British had lecturers from all castes together with SC and ST, he mentioned.
