Railways extends pact with IIT Kanpur for infrastructure modernisation research

The Indian Railways has prolonged the memorandum of understanding signed with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur for encouraging a cutting-edge collaborative research for modernisation of railway infrastructure and environment friendly utilisation of its scientific belongings by means of the centre for railway research (CRR).

The MoU was signed between Alka Arora Misra, principal govt director (T&MPP), ministry of railways and Prof AR Harish, dean, R&D, IIT-Kanpur within the presence of chairman and CEO, Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav and IIT- Kanpur director Prof Abhay Karandikar.

Prof Abhay Karandikar spoke on the significance of this collaboration within the context of modernisation of Indian Railways for the event of leading edge applied sciences in electronics, sensor networks, energy electronics and electrical security.

He additionally spoke on associated research and improvement actions being carried out at IIT-Kanpur within the area areas of relevance to Indian Railways.

The MoU would facilitate research within the core areas {of electrical} locomotive, locomotive management and communication methods, traction set up, condition-based monitoring, practice and monitor security utilizing sign processing, energy and car management electronics, driver interface methods, practice stage sensor networks and IoT, electrical security, community management and employees coaching in associated technical areas by means of the CRR at IIT-Kanpur, Prof Karandikar mentioned.

Currently, CRR, which has its administrative unit within the division {of electrical} engineering in IIT-Kanpur, has been assigned the broad research area of loco research and propulsion applied sciences, traction set up/OHE and related electronics.
