The regulator has hiked the charges of ATM transactions after nearly seven years. 

“It can be noticed that the final change in interchange charge construction for ATM transactions was in August 2012, whereas the charges payable by prospects have been final revised in August 2014. A considerable time has thus elapsed since these charges have been final modified,” RBI stated in a notification.

The RBI has additionally raised the interchange charge for monetary transactions from ₹15 to ₹17, whereas for non-financial transactions the rise is from ₹5 to ₹6. The new charges can be relevant from August 1, 2021. 

An interchange charge is a charge charged by banks to the service provider who processes a credit card or debit card cost, in accordance to RBI. “Applicable taxes, if any, shall be moreover payable,” RBI stated.
