Why this is a good time to be in Quantum Technology field – Times of India

“The diverse faculty of IISc (across the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Math, Electrical Communication Engineering, Nanoscience, Material Science, Instrumentation etc)will teach courses, run laboratories and offer projects in the proposed MTech programme. We are getting support from industry, in terms of summer internships for the students and use of their resources on the cloud. Such interactions will help collaboration with industry and initiation of startups,” says Apoorva Patel, professor, Centre for High Energy Physics, IISc, Bengaluru.

The college students, Patel provides, will be eligible for persevering with analysis on the PhD stage and it might be up to them whether or not to pursue teachers, authorities analysis laboratories, industrial jobs or their very own startups.

Quantum Technology vs Quantum Physics

“Quantum technology represents a new set of technological advances that depend on certain hidden features of Quantum Physics. Using these ‘hidden’ properties, certain computations can be done much faster than even the best supercomputers today,” Ghosh says.

“Through quantum expertise, it is potential as an example, to talk data so securely that even hackers can not faucet into it; sensors can be made for imaging of mind, detecting cancerous cells, or for pre-warning of pure disasters like earthquakes, tsunami and many others, he provides. Broadly put, Quantum Physics is the working precept of quantum expertise.

Rising demand

The demand for quantum expertise, and specialists in this field, are on a fast rise each in the worldwide and the Indian scene. “There is an urgent need to train qualified personnel in this field. In India alone, it is expected to create about 50,000 direct/indirect jobs in the near term, and 2,00,000 in the longer term,” Suri provides.

Career scope

“In addition to various universities that are eagerly looking to hire students to conduct research, there are also MNCs like IBM, Google, Microsoft and Intel that have been working in this area for over a decade, with Amazon and Honeywell entering the fray recently. There are several opportunities for startups as well both in India and abroad, making it a great time to be in this field,” Suri says.

Who can examine the course

Candidates want to have a BE, BTech or equal diploma in any engineering self-discipline, or 4-yr BS, MSc or equal diploma in any science self-discipline. In all circumstances, a legitimate rating of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE ) and a sturdy mathematical background will be required. Selection at IISc is based mostly on GATE rating and a private interview.
